Looking to save a little money on Halloween this
year? These days, who isn’t?!
And the truth is, you can still be a part of Halloween without buying expensive Halloween
costumes. You just need to learn how to make homemade Halloween costumes, especially for kids or
even an adult who won’t want to miss out on trick-or-treating.
You can create Holloween costumes on your own and make them scarier and more original by asking
your kids to join in the fun. The best part about this kind of “ritual” is honing their imagination
and skills while spending quality time together. And on top of that, these kind of costumes are
cheap to put together. So if you find yourself in financial difficulties or just don’t want to drop
a ton of cash on a costume this year this is how you can save some money and still make a cool
costume for your kid.
- A box of popcorn: For this cool and unique Hallowen costume idea, cover an empty
cardboard box with white butcher paper and add red stripes using construction paper or markers.
Using a hot glue gun, glue pieces of popcorn, either real or packing “peanuts” painted yellow, to
the outside of the box and around the rim. Complete the costume with red or white pants or
tights.
- Tourist: An easy and funny costume to make is the vacationing tourist using a
Hawaiian-type shirt, sunglasses, a camera, a loud hat and a few maps. And, there's no reason why
this fun idea couldn't be pulled oof as a unique couples Halloween costume with a wackly husban and
wife set to tour the islands.
Silly or Scary
Animals
- Animals: It’s simple to make animals such as a cow, pig, dog or cat using appropriately
colored sweat suits, a few pieces of felt for embellishments, and some face make-up to draw on the
whiskers or spots.
- Quasimodo: Find some old, worn out clothes, several sizes too big and add a pillow or
some foam to build a hunchback.
- Bag of jellybeans: Make an opening at the neck of a clear plastic garbage bad and two
holes for the legs. Fill up the interior of the bag with small colored balloons.
- Cereal killer: Attach cereal boxes to a shirt, cut a slit in them, glue some plastic
knives into the holes, and drip some red paint down the holes in the box.
- Rubik’s cube: Find a large cardboard box, preferably square, five different colors of
paint and start painting. Or you can try a single die, painted white, with black dots.
There are countless homemade Haloween costumes that are simple to make and cost a fraction of what
you’d pay for the boring, ordinary ones you find in the stores or on the internet even if you have
a Halloween shopping coupon. And making your own is so much more fun!
